The Harbin Ice and Snow World in Harbin, China holds an international ice  and snow festival annually every January. This year is the 33rd year of of the festival. Some previous designs have included famous building, mythical creatures, people, and even ice slides. The intricately carved ice sculptures are made even more spectacular with colorful lights.

Trump’s New Nominee for Labor Secretary

During a press conference on February 16, 2017 President Trump nominated Alexander Acosta for Labor Secretary, a day after Andrew Puzder withdrew his nomination. Acosta, a Harvard Law School graduate, served as a member of the National Labor Relations Board from December 17, 2002 to August 21, 2003. He also served as Assistant Attorney General for the Civil Rights Division of the Department of Justice, during which time he testified before Congress on the importance of protecting the rights of Muslim Americans.

Oroville Dam Flooding

Almost 200,000 people were ordered to evacuate after a hole in an emergency spillway in the Oroville Dam threatened to flood the surrounding area. The order was cancelled on February 16.

The “Day without Immigrants” boycotts on February 16 were organized as a response to President Trump’s immigration plans. The idea is to recognize the importance every American to our nation’s life and culture, regardless of country of origin.

ISIS Attacks in Pakistan

A Pakistani woman, whose relatives were killed, is being comforted by scouts a day after it was hit a suicide attack at the 13th century old shrine of a Muslim saint, in the town of Sehwan, in southern Sindh province in Pakistan on February 17, 2017.

The Islamic State claimed responsibility for an attack in the shrine of Lal Shahbaz Qalandar in Sehwan, Pakistan on Thursday. A suicide bomber entered the crowded hall, taking the lives of 75 people and wounding another 200 people. ISIS also claimed responsibility for a car bomb in Baghdad on the same day that killed at least 51 people and wounded more than 60 people.
