Earth Day

Saturday, April 22 is Earth Day. It’s an appropriate date for scientists and activists to descend onto Washington, D.C. for a rally to raise awareness of environmental issues plaguing our society, or perhaps ways our society is plaguing the environment. The Trump administration has been clear on their stance in not supporting environmental initiatives, and many worry our government will go so far as to back out of the monumental 2016 Paris Agreement.

Terrorist Shootings in Paris

ISIS claimed responsibility for the shootings on popular Champs Elysees on Thursday, April 20 in Paris, France.”The Belgium,” as ISIS media referred to him, killed one police officer and wounded another before being shot and killed by police. He was a French national that was being watched by the French domestic security service, DGSI.

The gunman had shot two officers in 2001 during a traffic stop. He was convicted during that arrest and had a criminal record of violent robberies.

Cannabis Culture

On Thursday, April 20 cannabis enthusiasts gathered for the Denver 420 Rally at Denver’s Civic Center Park. The rally celebrates cannabis and the legalization of cannabis. Several thousand people were in attendance at the event which included food trucks, vendors, and, of course, a 4:20 p.m. marijuana smoke-in. Currently, eight states plus the District of Columbia legalized recreational use of marijuana while 21 states have laws that legalize medical marijuana in some way, for example Mississippi only allows the drug to be used for severe cases of epileptic conditions.

 

A Champion Tennis Player Makes a Cool Mom-to-be

The highest-paid female athlete in the world. Award winning tennis star that crushed it at this year’s Australian Open. Add mom-to-be to Serena Williams’s resume. Willams announced on social media this week that she’s 20 weeks pregnant. Doing the math, Williams was around two months pregnant while running around the Australian Open’s court. That’s one tough mama.
