Dear Emma,

I’m having a conflict. My husband has five children that he doesn’t see. He’s always making excuses for why he can’t see them…money, time, distance. I’m always telling him that email, phone calls and texts don’t cost him much time and no money. He sometimes even says they need to make more effort. But, I feel like as the parent, that’s his job to establish and maintain contact. He’s perfect in every way except this area. It’s so unattractive and it’s starting to affect my love and respect for him. His ex-wife doesn’t seem to care. Is this really my business?

Dear Married to Mr. Almost Perfect,

So, you say your husband is perfect except in this one area and that you are the only one bothered by the situation. Two possibilities here: either you’re worried that if you’re out of his sight, you’ll be out of his mind too. Another possibility is that this is an issue you feel is a legitimate focus, and other complaints you might have seem petty and not worth discussing. Examining and addressing the smaller complaints might lessen the focus on the one issue and make it more manageable. There could be other possibilities here too, but try these on for starters.
