Last November, my husband and I met my parents in Mérida, Mexico for an “Away From Home” Thanksgiving holiday. The multi-generational trip was delightful.

When I told a Mexican friend that I was writing an article on Dia de los Muertos, the national “Day of the Dead” holiday, her face lit up and she became animated. “This is really the most important holiday in Mexico,” she said.

After an agonizing year of trying to save my sinking financial ship, I decided to make a complete 180 in my life. I sold or gave away most of my belongings, packed up what was left in a trailer, and moved to Baja California, Mexico.
I am retired and on a limited income. I am considering moving out of the country to a more affordable place, one of the options being an ex-pat town in Mexico, or a town in rural Italy.
